The Advanced Seminars will meet on the following dates:

March 19-21, 2010 Dr. Steve Galella Will speak on ADVANCED ORTHODONTICS - Part 2, in which he will continue to impart his wisdom, techniques, and philosophies for effective and simplified ortho treatment.  Dr. Gallela is an internationally known speaker whose skills, knowledge, commitment, and real love of learning and teaching will make for an innovative source of discovery and improvement in your orthodontic practice. He is known for his vast awareness of the professional literature, which he will share during his presentation.  His creativity and his focus on practical and direct solutions, will enhance your understanding of orthodontics and expand your ability to treat patients.

 

Topics to be covered include:

¨       An enhanced background in the Bio-Mechanics of orthodontic forces and how they affect and remodel the jaw and facial tissues

¨       The new self-ligating and variable force orthodontic systems.

¨       Definitive methods to sharpen skills in child and adult psychology

¨       Functional Orthopedic Appliance therapy

¨       Fixed Straightwire Appliance treatment

¨       TMD diagnosis and treatment

¨       A study of new advances in our understanding of growth and development of the face and skull

 

Sections on anatomy and physiology of the craniomandibular and facial complexes will also be taught. Selected topics include growth & development, early treatment, airway, soft tissue/periodontal factors, retention, TMD and sleep apnea.  Overall, it should prove to be a most informative and practical seminar.



September 24-26, 2010 Dr. Chris Baker will speak on Early Treatment / Pedodontics. Dr. Baker was a critical care Registered Nurse for 10 years, before earning her DMD from University of Kentucky and her certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from University of Connecticut. She also spent a year fellowship in Orthodontics at UConn, and served on faculty in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics for seven years. She then joined Dr. Walter Doyle in practice and teaching seminars. Today, after 25 years in dentistry, Dr. Chris’ approach to pediatric dentistry and orthodontics is based in prevention, with emphasis on orthodontic treatment procedures for the preschool and school-age child to improve the growth of the entire face, while guiding growth into an attractive, stable, functional occlusion. She currently practices in Lexington, Kentucky as a pediatric dentist performing orthodontics. Among her achievements, she is on the faculty of the Univ of Lousiville Dental School and lectures worldwide for AOS.

 

Topics to be covered include:

¨       Airway - its impact on growth and orthopedic / orthodontic development

¨       Expansion for the child patient: when, what appliances, and goals of treatment

¨       Extractions of primary teeth: when and why? What are the advantages and disadvantages to growth and development?

¨       Early treatment of the Class III patient: from 12 months of age and up - when and what treatment? What are the goals? What canI expect?

¨       Treatment of the Class II patient - where are we today? bite correctors vs. elastics, distalizing appliances vs. TAD's, Utility arches vs. CT intrusion arches.

¨       Special problems in orthodontics: ectopic teeth, missing teeth-especially missing Mx laterals, non-compliance

¨       Retention of early treatment vs. retention of full permanent dentition treatment.

¨       Phase I and done can we get there?

¨       Early development of joints and occlusion

¨       Deep bites & bite plates vs. primary molar buildups
